We are big fans of wood and its natural beauty. Therefore, our wooden toys are not treated with anything and will not bring any chemicals into your home. Moreover, we make it our business that our toys are made from healthy natural materials that are safe for your children, especially if they put the toys in their mouth. Well, some toys are made to be put in the mouth☺
But do not fret. Wood is naturally antibacterial and is not affected by germs as other toys. It is also durable. With a little bit of proper care, wooden toys will stand the test of time and become a piece of family heirloom.
But what is a little bit or proper care?
First, do not soak wooden toys in water because wood is porous and absorbs water. As a result, the toy may swell, lose its shape or even break.
Instead, take a clean damp cloth and wipe the toy’s surface. Dry it with a clean towel and leave it to air dry. Make sure that toys dry completely to avoid any build-up of bacteria.
Avoid harsh chemicals or disinfectants because wood will absorb them, affecting its structure, and toys will no longer be safe to use (children often put toys in their mouth – this is how they explore the world around them).
If you would still like to clean your wooden toys more thoroughly, you can use a mixture of white vinegar and water. Dip a cloth into the solution and wipe the grease and grime off your toys. Allow the toys to air dry.
Make sure to keep your wooden toys away from direct sunlight, because the light may affect their colour and cause your toys to crack or break. And we would not like that, would we?
Last but not least, your wooden toys will appreciate a little moisturizing now and then. Treat the surface of the toys with beeswax polish or olive/coconut oil, leave it a little to soak in, wipe off the excess and let it dry. Thus, your toys will get a fresh start.
